The Chesapeake community is mourning the tragic loss of Dylan Wiley Dameron Farrer, age 24, who passed away unexpectedly following a car accident on June 28, 2026. His sudden death has left family, friends, students, and athletes devastated as tributes continue to highlight a young man remembered for his compassion, leadership, and dedication to others.
Born in Norfolk, Dylan was the beloved son of John Dameron Farrer and Jennifer Kay Grubbs Farrer. A 2020 graduate of Hickory High School, he went on to serve his community through education and athletics as a teacher’s assistant with Chesapeake Public Schools and as a wrestling coach at Indian River Middle School. He was also actively involved in coaching baseball alongside his father at both Oscar Smith High School and Indian River Middle School, where he became a meaningful mentor to many young athletes.
Those who knew Dylan describe him as someone with a genuine heart for people, always willing to help others and stand up for those who needed support. Friends and colleagues say he had a rare ability to connect with individuals of all ages, forming strong relationships with children, students, parents, and fellow coaches alike. His presence was often described as steady, encouraging, and deeply supportive.
Beyond his work in education and sports, Dylan is remembered as a devoted family member who cherished time with his siblings, parents, and extended relatives. He is survived by his sisters Ashley Pothier (Matt) and Harvest Lee (Keanu), his brother Wiley Farrer, his niece Millie Pothier, his grandmothers Rhoda Farrer and Patricia Grubbs, and his maternal great-grandmother Mary Kuehnel, along with many other loving relatives.
A celebration of Dylan’s life is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Briggs Funeral Home and Crematory in Chesapeake. The family will receive friends the evening prior as the community gathers to pay tribute and share memories.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dylan Farrer Memorial Fund, which will support youth athletic scholarships in Chesapeake—an effort that reflects his lifelong dedication to mentoring and uplifting young people.
