A tragic crash involving a passenger vehicle and a commercial truck claimed the lives of two people and left an infant injured Wednesday, April 1, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash occurred around 11:42 a.m. on N.C. 32, just south of N.C. 99.
Authorities reported that a Ford passenger car, driven by 42-year-old Harry Spruill of Plymouth, was traveling north when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with an empty Freightliner grain truck traveling southbound.
Harry Spruill and a passenger, 37-year-old Whitney Spruill, were pronounced dead at the scene. A second passenger, an infant, was transported to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Freightliner was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
