With hearts full of sorrow and deep compassion, we mourn the passing of Sawyer Jayden Smith, a bright and beloved 13-year-old of Ashland, who left this world far too soon on March 30th. Though his time here was brief, Sawyer’s life was filled with love, joy, and moments that will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
Born on December 28, 2012, in Pottsville, Sawyer was the treasured son of Siena and Joseph Smith. He brought immense happiness into their lives and shared a special bond with them through their many travels and adventures. Sawyer had a natural curiosity about the world and found joy in exploring new places, creating lasting memories with his family along the way.
A 7th grade student at North Schuylkill Middle School, and formerly of Assumption BVM, Sawyer was known for his energy, determination, and team spirit. He was an active member of both the wrestling and soccer teams, where he demonstrated not only athletic ability but also perseverance and sportsmanship. His teammates and coaches will remember him for his dedication and the positivity he brought to every practice and game.
At home, Sawyer’s heart belonged to his family and his two beloved Dobermans. He shared a close and loving connection with his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. His laughter, kindness, and gentle spirit made him a joy to be around, and his presence brought warmth to every gathering. He was deeply loved, and that love will continue to surround him in memory.
Sawyer was also a member of Christ’s United Church in Ashland, where he found community and faith. His life, though short, reflected a purity of heart and a love for those around him that will never be forgotten.
As we grieve this unimaginable loss, we extend our deepest condolences to his parents, family, friends, classmates, and all who were touched by his life. May you find comfort in the memories you shared, the love that surrounds you, and the support of your community during this difficult time.
