The Shandaken, New York, community is mourning the tragic loss of Mendoza Canarte, 29, who died following a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 890 in Schenectady on Tuesday morning, August 4.
According to New York State Police, Mendoza Canarte was driving a 2022 Nissan Altima westbound on I-890 at approximately 6:20 a.m. when the vehicle left the roadway. Investigators said the vehicle struck an earth embankment before colliding with a support pole for an overhead sign near the Exit 6 off-ramp.
Mendoza Canarte was the only person inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported him to Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, where he was later pronounced dead.
