The Amarillo community is mourning the loss of Moneke Denice Glass, 40, who was fatally shot early Friday morning in the San Jacinto neighborhood.
According to Amarillo Police, officers were dispatched around 2:55 a.m. to a residence near SW 8th Avenue and S. Maryland Street following reports of a shooting. At the scene, officers discovered multiple spent cartridge casings in the street and in the yards of nearby homes.
Inside the residence, officers located Glass suffering from gunshot wounds. Responding officers began life-saving measures until Amarillo Medical Services transported her to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Homicide detectives and the Crime Scene Investigation Unit responded to process the scene. Authorities are asking anyone who was in the area between 2:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. to review outdoor or doorbell camera footage and submit any relevant video through the Amarillo Police Department’s evidence submission portal.
