A tragic early-morning crash in Dover has claimed the life of a 26-year-old woman after her vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.
Dover Police said officers responded to the Unit Block of South New Street, just south of West Division Street, at approximately 12:44 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, following reports of a serious collision.
When officers arrived, they found a 2013 Nissan Murano that had traveled off the roadway and crashed into a tree on the east side of the road.
The driver was identified as Aalyah Casson, 26, of Felton. Police said Casson was found inside the vehicle suffering from severe injuries. Officers and emergency medical personnel immediately provided life-saving aid at the scene, but despite their efforts, Casson later died from her injuries.
Investigators determined that Casson had been traveling westbound on West Division Street before turning left onto South New Street. Authorities believe the vehicle entered the roadway at a high rate of speed, causing the driver to lose control before leaving the road and striking the tree.
Police also noted that Casson was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has additional information is urged to contact Dover Police at (302) 736-7111.
