The Decatur community is grieving the tragic loss of Jeffery Kendall Barton, 58, who was fatally shot Saturday evening, April 4, in a devastating incident on Shiloh Road.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, law enforcement responded after reports of gunfire in the 400 block of Shiloh Road. Deputies arrived to find Barton suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite rapid medical attention and transport to a local hospital, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Authorities have identified Tyler Steven Meadows, 36, of Decatur, as the primary suspect. On Sunday, April 5, TBI agents obtained a warrant charging Meadows with second-degree murder, and he was arrested and booked into the Meigs County Jail.
