A Vermont community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Andrew Pott, a FedEx truck driver who was tragically killed in a devastating crash Thursday night on Interstate 89 southbound in Hartford.
According to the Vermont State Police, the fatal collision occurred at approximately 8:15 p.m. near mile marker 4.3, between Exit 2 and Exit 1. Authorities said the crash involved a FedEx truck and a BMW 750i.
Investigators identified the BMW driver as Gabriel Vestal, of Rochester, New Hampshire. Police stated that their investigation revealed Vestal caused the crash. Vestal was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Tragically, the driver of the FedEx truck, Andrew Pott, 36, of Burke, Vermont, was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving behind loved ones now facing an unimaginable grief.
While speaking with Vestal following the crash, troopers reportedly observed signs of impairment. Investigators believe he was under the influence of alcohol and other drugs at the time of the collision. Vestal has since been charged with DUI and is scheduled to appear in Windsor County court in June.
The deadly crash shut down the southbound lanes of I-89 for several hours as emergency crews responded, and investigators worked through the night collecting evidence and reconstructing what happened. The roadway remained closed until around 4 a.m. Friday, when traffic was finally allowed to resume.
Andrew Pott’s death has left a painful void in the lives of those who knew him. Friends, family, and community members are now remembering him as they grieve a life lost far too soon.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
