The Elgin community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Brandon James Butler, 29, who was killed in a tragic hit-and-run incident early Thursday morning in Kershaw County.
According to the Kershaw County Coroner’s Office, dispatch received a 911 call around 1:26 a.m. reporting a man down in the 1200 block of Wildwood Lane, near the intersection of Chestnut Road. When emergency responders arrived, they found Butler suffering from severe injuries after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.
Investigators believe Brandon Butler was walking toward Elgin along Wildwood Lane when he was hit. Despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol MAIT Team and the Kershaw County Coroner’s Office are actively investigating the crash as a hit-and-run, and authorities continue working to identify the vehicle and driver involved.
As family, friends, and the community grieve this sudden loss, Brandon James Butler is being remembered as a young life taken far too soon. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, as they search for both healing and answers.
