Jason Henry, a 44-year-old resident of Wooster, was killed Thursday afternoon in a devastating crash involving an SUV and a tractor-trailer in Homer Township. The collision also left two children seriously injured, requiring both to be airlifted to area hospitals for emergency medical treatment.
According to the Medina County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 12:38 p.m. at the intersection of Jeffrey Road and Lafayette Road, also known as U.S. Route 42. Investigators said Henry was driving a Lexus westbound on Jeffrey Road when he failed to yield at a two-way stop sign before entering the intersection.
As the SUV crossed into the roadway, it was struck by a northeastbound tractor-trailer traveling on Lafayette Road. The impact caused catastrophic damage to the vehicle and prompted a large-scale emergency response from local and state agencies.
Authorities reported that Henry suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary findings suggest that excessive speed may have been a factor in the crash. Investigators also stated that Henry was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
Two children traveling in the Lexus sustained serious injuries and were transported by medical helicopter to nearby hospitals. Their current conditions have not been publicly released.
The driver of the semi-truck, a 30-year-old man, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
