One person is dead following an officer-involved shooting late Friday night in Florence, Kentucky, prompting an independent investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded shortly before 11 p.m. to a residence in the 8600 block of Lely Court after receiving a call requiring law enforcement intervention. During the response, deputies encountered an individual, and the situation escalated into an officer-involved shooting.
Authorities said four Boone County Sheriff’s deputies discharged their firearms during the incident. The individual sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported by emergency medical personnel to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence, where they were later pronounced dead. Officials confirmed that none of the deputies were injured during the encounter.
Following the shooting, law enforcement established a secure perimeter around the neighborhood while detectives and crime scene investigators began processing evidence. Residents in the immediate area experienced a heightened police presence and temporary traffic restrictions as emergency personnel worked throughout the night.
In accordance with Kentucky’s standard protocol for officer-involved shootings, the Kentucky State Police (KSP) has assumed responsibility for the investigation. Detectives are examining the circumstances that led to the use of deadly force, including reviewing body-worn camera footage, collecting forensic evidence, and interviewing witnesses and nearby residents.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased individual. Officials said the name will be withheld until the medical examiner completes the identification process and next of kin have been notified.
Investigators have emphasized that the incident appears to be isolated and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. The Boone County Sheriff’s Office has stated it will cooperate fully with the independent investigation while the involved deputies are subject to administrative procedures consistent with department policy.
