The Eaton, Colorado, community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Cooper Nider, one of three recent Eaton High School graduates who died in a devastating single-vehicle crash in Weld County on Saturday evening. The tragedy has left family members, classmates, friends, and the wider community grieving the loss of young lives filled with promise and potential.
According to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), the crash occurred at approximately 5:18 p.m. on Weld County Road 80 near Weld County Road 39. Investigators reported that a Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway and entered a roadside ditch. The SUV then re-entered the roadway, rotated, and rolled over multiple times before coming to rest.
Three young men were pronounced dead at the scene. Cooper Nider was among the victims, along with two other recent graduates whose lives were tragically cut short. The Weld County Coroner’s Office is responsible for formally identifying the victims following notification of their next of kin.
The 20-year-old driver, who is from Wyoming, sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. Another 19-year-old passenger from Eaton suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and care.
Emergency responders remained at the scene for several hours while investigators documented evidence and worked to clear the roadway. The affected section of Weld County Road 80 remained closed for approximately six hours as the investigation continued.
The loss of Cooper Nider and the two other recent graduates has deeply affected the Eaton High School community. Friends, teachers, classmates, and residents have begun sharing heartfelt tributes and messages of sympathy, remembering the young men for the friendships they built, the memories they created, and the positive impact they had on those around them. The tragedy has united the community in grief as loved ones come together to support the victims’ families during this incredibly difficult time.
