The Jupiter community is mourning the tragic loss of Kevin Parker Burns, a longtime U.S. History and Civics teacher at Jupiter Middle School, who died Friday, August 14, after being caught in a strong current while snorkeling off the Jupiter coast.
Burns dedicated more than two decades to education, leaving a lasting impact on students, colleagues, and the many people who had the opportunity to know him. According to information from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Burns and a friend had paddleboarded approximately half a mile offshore to a reef near the 3000 block of South A1A. After securing their paddleboards, the two entered the water to snorkel. During the outing, Burns was reportedly caught in a strong current, leading to the tragic incident.
