A 31-year-old man lost his life following a tragic early morning shooting near the Louis Joliet Mall on Sunday, marking yet another instance of gun violence under active investigation by local authorities.
According to Joliet Police Sgt. Dwayne English, officers were dispatched at approximately 1:51 a.m. after an officer in the vicinity of Anthony’s Restaurant and Pub, located along the 3100 block of Voyager Lane, heard multiple gunshots originating from a nearby parking lot. Responding officers arrived at the scene in the 2900 block of Colorado Avenue, where they discovered the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
Emergency personnel from the Joliet Fire Department transported the man to Saint Joseph Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Authorities conducted an extensive search of the area, recovering multiple spent shell casings and a handgun at the scene. Investigators also reported that two unoccupied vehicles and a nearby commercial building sustained damage from gunfire.
Detectives and crime scene investigators remain actively engaged in determining the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including a possible motive. At this time, no suspects have been taken into custody.
The identity of the victim, along with the official cause and manner of death, will be released pending confirmation by the Will County Coroner’s Office.
Family members and loved ones are left mourning the sudden and violent loss, as the community awaits further answers in the unfolding investigation.
